Issue 09/2026 02 October 2026
In this Edition:

Safari Greetings
As we move into the final months of 2026, there is much happening within our Association and the broader Namibian hunting and agricultural sectors.
In this edition, we share the first details of our upcoming 52nd NAPHA Annual General Meeting, taking place from 1–3 December, and encourage you to save the dates and join us in Windhoek.
We also address the current Foot-and-Mouth Disease situation and the responsibility we all share in supporting Namibia’s livestock farmers by adhering to the restrictions in place.
Having experienced the devastating effects of COVID-19 on our own industry, we understand how important solidarity and responsible action are during times of crisis.
On a more positive note, we highlight new opportunities and benefits for our members, including NAPHA’s participation in HuntAdmin’s Trusted Partner Portal and our growing network of Discount Supporters.
We hope you enjoy this edition and wish you a wonderful weekend.

The Open Session is an opportunity to learn more about NAPHA, engage with members of the industry and participate in discussions around the opportunities and challenges facing conservation hunting in Namibia.

We Remember COVID. Now It Is Our Turn to Stand Together
There are moments when rules and restrictions become more than words on a Government notice. They affect livelihoods, businesses, families and futures.
For those of us in Namibia’s hunting and tourism industry, we do not have to think very far back to remember such a time.
We remember COVID-19.
We remember the cancellations. We remember watching our booking calendars empty almost overnight. We remember borders closing and international flights stopping. We remember not knowing when our next client would arrive, when income would return, or whether our businesses would survive.
We remember employees depending on us when we ourselves did not know where the next month’s income would come from.
We remember the frustration of knowing that there was very little we could do to change the situation. We could not simply work harder, find another client or make another plan. Decisions outside our control determined whether our businesses could operate.
Many in the hunting and tourism sector survived that period because people stood together. Clients postponed rather than cancelled. Employees accepted difficult circumstances. Businesses supported one another. Namibians travelled locally. Communities, conservancies and operators made sacrifices to get through an extraordinary situation.
Today, another part of our Namibian economy is facing its own crisis.
Our livestock farmers are looking at movement restrictions, disrupted markets and uncertainty over when normal trade can fully resume. The current Foot-and-Mouth Disease situation has consequences far beyond an individual farm. It affects livestock producers, farm workers, transporters, auctioneers, abattoirs, exporters and many other businesses and families whose livelihoods depend on the agricultural sector.
For many farmers, livestock is not simply something standing behind a fence. It represents years of investment, breeding, management and hard work. It pays salaries, school fees, bank instalments and household expenses.
We in the hunting industry should understand that better than most.
During COVID-19, we desperately wanted others to understand that hunting and tourism were not luxuries to the people whose livelihoods depended on them. Behind every cancelled safari was an outfitter, a hunting professional, a tracker, a skinner, a lodge employee, a conservancy and a family.
The same principle applies today.
Behind every livestock restriction is a farmer and a much wider chain of people who depend on that industry.
This is why adhering to the FMD restrictions is not simply about avoiding a fine or complying because Government tells us to.
It is about protecting our neighbours.

Foot-and-Mouth Disease is highly infectious and can spread through direct contact between animals as well as contaminated vehicles, footwear, clothing and other materials. One irresponsible decision can therefore have consequences far beyond the person making it.
If a restriction is inconvenient to us, we must remember what is at stake for someone else.
If meat may not be moved, do not move it.
If livestock may not be transported, do not transport it.
If additional veterinary requirements are introduced, follow them.
Do not look for loopholes. Do not assume that one exception will not matter. Do not risk an entire industry because complying with a restriction is inconvenient.
The quicker this outbreak is contained, the sooner affected farmers and businesses can move towards normal operations again. That requires cooperation with the Directorate of Veterinary Services and responsible behaviour from every sector that works with livestock, wildlife and products from cloven-hoofed animals.
The hunting sector has another reason to take this seriously. We operate in the same rural landscape. Many hunting farms also have livestock, and many others border livestock farms. Our industries are not separate from one another. What affects agriculture ultimately affects rural Namibia as a whole.
COVID-19 taught us how quickly circumstances beyond our control can threaten everything that people have spent years building.
We know what helplessness feels like.
We know what uncertainty feels like.
We know what it feels like to wonder whether an industry will recover and whether there will still be a business when the crisis is over.
We should therefore not need to be convinced to stand with Namibia’s livestock farmers now.
This is a time for discipline, patience and solidarity.
NAPHA calls on its members, the broader hunting industry and the Namibian public to adhere strictly to the official FMD restrictions and to remain informed through official Government and veterinary communications.
Our individual actions matter.
During COVID-19, we asked Namibia and our international friends to stand with the hunting and tourism sector.
Today, it is our turn to stand with our farmers.
Let us not make their crisis worse through actions that could have been avoided.
NAPHA Joins HuntAdmin’s New Trusted Partner Portal
HuntAdmin recently approached NAPHA with an opportunity to participate in its newly developed Trusted Partner Portal, a feature designed to help hunting operators strengthen their offers by displaying trusted industry partners and professional memberships directly to their clients.
NAPHA welcomed the initiative and has joined the portal as one of the first participating Namibian organisations.
Adding Credibility to Hunting Offers
The new feature allows HuntAdmin users to display their trusted partners and memberships at the bottom of their booking offers.
For NAPHA members using HuntAdmin, this means that their NAPHA membership can be displayed as part of the offer presented to a prospective hunting client.
Importantly, the connection is verified. When a HuntAdmin user requests to connect with NAPHA, NAPHA approves whether that operator is entitled to display the NAPHA affiliation. NAPHA also maintains its own profile and information on the platform.
This gives clients additional information about the professional affiliations of the operator they are considering booking with, while also helping NAPHA ensure that its name and membership are represented correctly.
Building a Network of Trusted Partners
The portal extends beyond association membership. The first Namibian taxidermists are already available as Trusted Partners, and HuntAdmin plans to add further businesses and organisations.
Operators can therefore connect their offers with businesses they already know and trust, giving prospective clients useful information about the wider network that may form part of their hunting experience.
Each participating partner maintains its own information. When details change, the partner can update them directly rather than each hunting operator having to maintain separate information.
How to Connect
NAPHA members using HuntAdmin can go to Trusted Partners within HuntAdmin and request a connection with NAPHA.
Once the membership has been verified and the request approved, the NAPHA affiliation can be displayed on the member’s booking offers.
Members can follow the same process to connect with other participating partners available on the platform.
If there is a trusted business or industry partner that you would like to see included, you can contact HuntAdmin at contact@huntadmin.com. HuntAdmin can then invite them to join the platform.
A Welcome Initiative for the Namibian Hunting Industry
NAPHA appreciates HuntAdmin approaching the Association with this initiative and making the Partner Portal functionality available to NAPHA at no cost.
It is a practical way for NAPHA members to demonstrate their professional affiliation while giving international clients easier access to information about the organisations and businesses connected to their safari.
We look forward to seeing the network of trusted Namibian partners grow as more businesses and organisations join the platform.
